The controller is great. It's light but doesn't feel cheap. The rechargeable battery is replaceable and anyone can do it, which I think shows how Sony has thought ahead about little details of the system.
It does lack rumble support and extra controllers do not come with a USB cable to charge them (the PS3 includes one in the box). Why do I say it's not that bad? Well, the cable that comes with the PS3 is pretty short. It's only good to charge the controller or to play it close to the TV (try that with a 47" LCD HDTV and you will see the problem). You can get some longer cables for cheap both here on amazon and elsewhere. All you need to look for is an A to mini-B 5pin USB cable.
Monoprice.com sells the regular 6-feet cable for $[...]if all you need it is to charge and play it close. Amazon and other places have 10' and even 15' USB cables that make much better matches for those who can't wait and must keep playing while the controller is charging.
The indicator lights are a great touch to know what number the PS3 has reserved for the respective controller (up to 7 can be connected at the same time) and the range and response are top notch. I have experienced no lag during gameplay. The PS3 will also warn you with a notice on the top right hand corner of the TV that a certain controller is low on batteries to give you plenty of time to hookup the USB cable.
Does the controller have shortcomings? Yes, but they are not deal breakers, at least to me. It took a few minutes to get used to the trigger buttons, but I don't even notice them anymore and I wasn't much of a fan of the rumble feature anyway, so that didn't bother me.Get more detail about PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller.
