There was so much negative press regarding the loss of rumble in the PS3. What I never expected was what a great thing this would be. If you hook your PS3 up to any kind of subwoofer, it more than makes up for the loss. All the removal of rumble does is allow developers to use a subwoofer more efficiently. The rumble in the PS2 always felt somehow artificial, because it only had one speed, and one intensity. Using sound to simulate these things opens up a new level of awareness. It's much less fatiguing to your wrists, which is an added bonus.
The redesign has not just removed rumble, it also has added a new L2/R2 design, which now are variable-input triggers.
